Another frst-class rum address is, for example, New Grove in Pamplemousse in the north-west of Mauritius, right next to the Aventure du Sucre Museum, which is well worth seeing, where you can learn everything about the role and importance of sugar cane cultivation in Mauritius, which has had a lasting impact on the island's landscape to this day . This distillery also produces a limited single cask edition for the Constance Hotels. Once in Pamplemousse, you can combine your visit with a detour to the oldest botanical garden in the southern hemisphere. Finally, we make a quick stop with Alexander Oxenham, owner and oenologist at Boutique Winery Takamaka. Alexander, who, like his father, studied viticulture in Dijon and produces a wine here from fully ripe lychee fruits that not only easily competes with "real" grape juice, but also develops such a complex spectrum of aromas thanks to aging in small oak and acacia wood barrels that it is also ideal for sophisticated food pairings, as Alexander proudly explains. You can try it out directly in the adjoining small bistro of the winery. But wait: of course, the winners of the three most important competitions of the Constance Festival Culinaire should not go unmentioned at this point. The winner of the Deutz Trophy 2003 is Christopher Haatuft (1*) from Lysverket Restaurant in Bergen, Norway, this year the Bernard Loiseau Trophy went to Team Romuald Fassenet (1*) from Château Mont Joly in the Jura and Mahendran Seenivasan from Constance Halaveli Maldives, while Jérome de Oliveira and Aurélie Jugoo from Constance Belle Mare Plage took home the Piere Hermé Trophy. The next edition of the Constance Festival Culinaire is expected to take place in March 2024.
