Turtle Conservation
Corals and Island Life
reported to the Olive Ridley Project to support its studies on the population of green sea turtles in the Maldives.
Grande Anse Kerlan at Constance Lemuria, Seychelles, remains one of the key turtle nesting beaches on Praslin Island, supported by a structured Turtle Conservation Programme led by the renowned scientist Dr Jeanne Mortimer.
The Coral Conservation Project at Constance Moofushi, Maldives, is implemented in partnership with Mars Incorporated, a family-owned company globally recognised for its confectionery brands and its commitment to sustainability. Since 2006, Mars has been actively involved in coral restoration initiatives as part of its broader environmental responsibility strategy. Through the Sheba Hope Grows programme, launched in 2011, Mars has supported the restoration of degraded reef ecosystems using innovative coral propagation techniques and long-term scientific monitoring. The programme was initially designed to create alternative livelihoods for coastal and island communities dependent on fishing, while addressing the urgent decline of coral reefs worldwide. Aligned with these objectives, the partnership at Constance Moofushi, Maldives, focuses on restoring and strengthening local reef ecosystems through structured coral frame installation, transplantation and ongoing monitoring. By combining scientific innovation, responsible tourism and local collaboration, the project aims to: – Rebuild resilient coral reef structures – Enhance marine biodiversity – Support ecosystem recovery – Raise awareness among guests and team members In October 2025, Constance Moofushi, Maldives, successfully planted 100 coral frames in partnership with the Sheba Hope Grows initiative. This hands-on project brought together dedicated team members and in-house guests, who actively participated in each stage of the process, from collecting coral fragments and attaching them to frames to assembling and positioning the structures underwater. This collaborative effort not only supports reef recovery but also reinforces our shared commitment to marine conservation and the protection of the Maldivian ecosystem. Whale shark excursions are among the most popular activities offered by our diving centre, BlueTribe. Since April 2023, data have been recorded on the success of each trip and on whale shark sightings. In collaboration with the Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme (MWSRP), we leverage these resources to deliver educational and research-based excursions. Using the unique fingerprint of each whale shark, we identify individual animals using the I3S software and collect data for the research Partnership with Maldives Whale Shark Conservation
Through this process, researchers are able to observe different stages of development and gain deeper insights into the reproductive biology of sea turtles in the Maldives.
After receiving a permit from the government, most nests are excavated, and all information relating to these events is
Partnership with Manta Trust
Swimming with manta rays is a highlight for many visitors to the Maldives. As one of the most majestic marine species, snorkelling or diving with these gentle giants offers a unique experience. On 21 October 2021, Constance Halaveli, Maldives, partnered with the Manta Trust, an NGO dedicated to protecting manta rays and the marine ecosystems they inhabit. As a Manta Trust Responsible Operator, Constance Halaveli, Maldives, is formally committed to minimising the impact of guest interactions with manta and mobula rays.

Entanglement Rescue Training
Nemo’s Garden site
With each monsoon change in the Maldives, there is an increased likelihood of encountering animals caught in ghost nets that are carried towards Moofushi by ocean currents and wind. A marine biologist developed a training programme to enable team members to assess such situations and safely disentangle affected animals, ensuring appropriate care and protection. A ‘turtle rescuer’ badge is awarded upon successful completion of the programme as a recognition of team members’ commitment and contribution to marine conservation.

programme. This data provides valuable insights into the Maldivian whale shark population, and we have therefore joined the ‘Giants Campaign’. Since 2014, Constance Moofushi, Maldives, has contributed to the Big Fish Network, reporting 282 whale shark encounters. The Big Fish Network is an online citizen science platform developed by the founders of MWSRP to establish a regional monitoring network for whale sharks in the Maldives.
