aving 160km of coastline riddled with beaches and hotels, one is spoilt for choice when visiting Mauritius. Hotels come in a range of sizes and quality, and therefore budgets.
Constance Hotels, Resorts and Lodges is one of the larger hotel groups on the island and the Indian Ocean, with hotels in the Seychelles, Madagascar, the Maldives and Rodrigues. In Mauritius, they have several offerings with the largest being Constance Belle Mare Plage in the east, a 60-minute drive from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in the south-east corner of the island. Your stay starts with a big smile from the security guard who greets you. Staff around every corner – the chef, concierge, barman and starter at the golf course – all come with a huge smile and what seems to be a never-ending desire to satisfy your every need. The service is supported by a vast array of restaurants, water sports (both ocean and swimming pools), tennis courts, kiddies entertainment area, wellness centre, spa, bicycles, and so the list goes on.
The south is known for slightly more wind and is therefore favoured by the kitesurfers. The capital, Port Louis, in the north is favoured by those possibly looking for a more exciting nightlife. The main appeal of the island for many is to simply unwind on the beach with a good book in hand. Anyone who has visited the island will have their favourite hotel and coastline. It really is intriguing how diverse the offerings are and how everyone feels so strongly about their favourite.
